An hourglass faja is cut to do two things at once: slim your waist and leave room for your hips. That's why it works so well on bodies with wider hips and in post-op stage 2, when it's time to define. Many have boning that keeps the garment from rolling when you sit.

What sets it apart from a regular faja

  • Defined waist. The pattern is narrower at the waist and wider at the hips, instead of compressing everything evenly.
  • Ergonomic boning.  Stage 3 styles have 7 to 9 spiral bones that shape to your body and keep the faja from folding when you sit; stage 2 styles have none.
  • High compression. It's a garment for defining, not for the first weeks after surgery.

Who it's for, and who it isn't

It works well if you're in stage 2 or stage 3, if you have wide hips and a short waist, or if you simply want to show off your figure under a dress.

It's not the right piece if you just came out of surgery: for the first few days you wear the clinic's garment. Once your surgeon clears firm compression, the boning-free hourglass is the one for stage 2; with boning, the one for stage 3.

If you're not sure which stage you're in, check our guide to stage 2 and 3 before you choose.

Does the boning hurt?

It shouldn't. The bones are flexible and spiral-shaped precisely so they move with you. If they dig in, you've chosen the wrong size.

Does it show under clothes?

Stage 2 styles show a little because of the front closure. If you want something invisible under fitted clothes, check out our everyday shaping fajas.

Can I sleep in it?

That's not the idea. For sleeping, a medium-compression garment without boning is better.

Questions about sizing?

With hourglass fajas, your hips usually decide the size. Measure your waist and hips and look them up in the size guide; if they land on different sizes, go with the larger one. Or let Find your faja work it out for you.
